Today, we ate lunch at Central City BBQ restaurant located on 1201 South Rampart Street, New Orleans, and LA 70113.
The owners, Chef Aaron Burgau and Marc Bonifacic, along with their partners restored a building in historic “Central City” New Orleans, combining their passion for smoke, fire, and whole hog barbecue.
It is about 8 minutes from the River Front and 11 minutes from the French Quarter.
If you are spending a day or two in New Orleans before your cruise departs and you want to eat where the locals eat? Central City BBQ is the place to visit.
Bar-B-Q is not usually my first choice for any meal. But, I let my husband convince me to try their food. I was thoroughly impressed. My husband ordered the Sliced Beef Brisket with Brisket Chili and Sweet Corn Spoonbread, my son, the Half Rack Pork Ribs with Fries, and I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cole Slaw and Fries.
Let me just say that everything was excellent. The brisket was tender and delicious and the brisket chili was wonderful. The chili was chopped brisket with shredded cheese and sour cream on top. I could eat that as an entre.
The pulled pork melted in your mouth tender with NO fat or gristle. The combination of the Coleslaw with sour pickles and the pulled pork was indescribably delicious. The rib meat was falling off the bone and seasoned well.
Not only was the food delightful, the ambiance was bright, open, and welcoming with seating inside and outside. It’s set up like a sports bar with a family feel to it with the bar in the middle of the restaurant and several flat panels set up for you to watch the games.
